Sunniside. Some £5.1m of public and 32.9m of private funds have been
invested in Sunniside over the last 24 months. Developers and businesses are returning to
the historic heart of Sunderland. In the next financial year
Sunniside Partnership will start and deliver key projects together with
private sector businesses and organizations.
Sunderland
Housing Group, under the banner of Pathway City Homes, has embarked on an
ambitious development programme restoring key listed buildings across the
area to provide city-centre homes.
Notable successes are the award winning Post Office residential
development with many more in the pipeline.
Next steps :: Several large
and small residential and office developments are about to commence. Sunniside Partnership will be investing a
further £10m in the next 24 months on the improvements to Sunniside Gardens
commencing in Spring 2006, the creation of a £6m environmentally friendly
business and arts centre called thePLACE at
the corner of Athenaeum Street and West Sunniside, properties are being
developed with new businesses moving in thanks to grants provided by
Sunniside Partnership. The Partnership
plans to acquire further properties and undertake more public realm
improvements.
